The most anticipated fight in women’s MMA took place at UFC 232. Cris “Cyborg” Justino and Amanda Nunes were fighting for the UFC women’s featherweight title.

Nunes is the current women’s bantamweight champion and was moving up in weight to challenge Cyborg. The champion vs. champion fight had everyone excited because many were considering Nunes to be a real threat to Cyborg. The defending featherweight champion had run through her competition and looked unstoppable.

This was only the fourth time in UFC history that a champion vs. champion fight took place. It was the first time that a women’s champion vs. champion fight took place for the promotion. Nunes had a chance at writing history if she won the fight as she would be the first women’s two-division champion in UFC history.

The hype was real for this one as both ladies are known for their aggressive styles and high finish rate. The fight itself could have headlined the year-end event. Fans were anxious to see this one and it did not disappoint.

It was a showdown for the ages.

Both women came out swinging and despite being the underdog it was Nunes who hurt Cyborg first. A punch rattled Cyborg, but she stayed upright and kept swinging. It wasn’t long before another punch had her shook and you could see the confidence in Nunes as she got more aggressive.

Eventually, a punch knocked Cyborg down, but she jumped right back up. She was clearly hurt though, and Nunes could sense it and she kept pouring it on until a right hand dropped Cyborg for good. She hit the canvas face first and it was over. It took less than a minute for Nunes to make UFC history and beat the seemingly unstoppable Cyborg.

The official ending came just 51 seconds into the first round. With the win, Nunes is the first women’s two-division champion. She also becomes the first person to KO Cyborg. It was definitely a sight to see as everyone was going crazy. Despite being the bantamweight champion, many people didn’t think she could beat Cyborg let alone KO her.

Nunes was confident in skills though. She stated before the fight that she could KO Cyborg. It was just amazing how dominant she looked. Almost from the start, she had Cyborg hurt, and she showed great patience to keep pressure but not over commit. Fantastic win for Nunes, who is now the bantamweight and featherweight women’s champion of the UFC.

Who knows what is next for Nunes. A rematch could definitely be in the works as we often see a champion get an immediate rematch after a loss. It is hard to imagine it though because it was such a dominant victory by Nunes.
