UFC Adelaide popped off down under today

UFC Adelaide took place in the early hours of this morning, featuring former UFC Champion Junior Dos Santos and young prospect Tai Tuivasa in the main event. Tuivasa had a hype train building behind him and JDS didn’t waste time derailing that hype train.

There were other big names on the card such as Shogun Hua and Mark hunt. But the interest lies in the main event. JDS showing why he was a champion, but Tuivasa did put up a fight until JDS decided to end it. Tuivasa fighting in his home country was aiming to not disappoint, winning the first round with pressure and some big shots.

But Junior Dos Santos is one of the best in the world for a reason, he rose to the top and that’s exactly where he belongs.

The fight started like any other with a little gauging out stage, then Tuivasa started with huge leg kicks that were doing visible damage to the Brazillian as he winced with every kick. Dos Santos attempted to slow the Sydney native’s pressure by tying him up against the cage but that didn’t stop Tuivasa from landing clean elbows as the clinch broke.

Towards the end of the first JDS looked stunned as Tuivasa turned the pace up a little more, then the bell went. The second round is where Dos Santos showed his experience, noticing how reckless Tuivasa had become with overconfidence from the first round.

After taking a few big shots from the former champ, he gestured a ‘bring it on’ and charged forward only to be met with a series of huge punches from the left and right, ultimately dropping him to the canvas. This is where JDS pounced.

Despite trying to desperately improve his position, JDS got full mount and was raining terror down onto Tuivasa until the fight was waved off by Herb Dean at 2:30 of round 2. That puts JDS on a two-fight win streak. His first win streak since 2012.

As for the young Australian, he called out Justin Willis. Willis had fought previously, beating Mark Hunt via split decision. So we might be seeing him return very soon.
