The Gypsy King, the man now being called the people’s champion put on a boxing clinic while Deontay Wilder looked for the knockout. It was always going to be that way, it was a classic boxer vs. puncher match up…
Plenty of questions were answered on Saturday night in Los Angeles, California. Sadly, one question that’s been repeated throughout history was left hanging; when will boxing’s scoring system be remodelled?
Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury had all the makings of an all-time classic, all except an accurate result. One judge scored the contest 115-111 for Wilder after 12 rounds, without even hearing the other two scorecards, this alone is a disgrace to boxing.
Watching as a neutral party, it’s easy to see why boxing has been called the most corrupt sport on earth.
Tyson Fury’s Backstage Interview Was Sheer Brilliance
Fury has since inspired fans with his post-fight comments. After returning from three years out of top competition, harrowing depression, addiction and massive weight gain, Fury has used this limelight well.
His crusade to raise awareness about mental health came full circle in LA. After the fight during a truly inspiring backstage interview, The Gypsy King gave probably the most brilliant post-fight interview in boxing history.
“Let’s Do This Together”
“It’s an iconic comeback isn’t it?”
“Everybody out there suffering from the same problems, I did it for you. If I can comeback from what I’ve been through then you can do it too. You know the truth, everyone knows I won that fight. If I can do it, so can you, seek help and let’s do it together.”
Fury is a unique character for certain, and both he and Deontay Wilder have rocketed into star status after Saturday night. Say what you like about the judging, both men at least remain undefeated and have the rematch to look forward to.
Much respect to both warriors who put in their all to compete for the crown. Sadly, boxing’s judges will likely never get past the lure of money and corruption, allegedly.
