Kevin Ross and Gaston Bolanos are scheduled to be in action at Muaythai 72 in Lima, Peru on November 27, 28, and 29. The event will be a three day Muay Thai festival from Peruvian National Muaythai Federation. There will be four WMC title on the line at the event.

Kevin Ross will fight Brazil’s Leonardo Duarte for the WMC 63.5kg Intercontinental title. Ross will be looking to get back on the winning track with a victory. The former Lion Fight champion will look to claim his first WMC title with the win.

Gaston Bolanos will fight Argentina’s Juan Allevato for the WMC 63.5kg South American title. Bolanos is one of Muay Thai’s soaring young talents who is currently undefeated. The Peruvian native will be looking to capture his first major title since turning pro. He has built his reputation with impressive and exciting knockouts.

Two more WMC South American titles will be on the line as Giovanni Mazzetti from Peru and Israel Roldan from Argentina will fight for the WMC South American 75kg title. Luna Tobin from Peru and Araceli Fornera from Paraguya will fight for the WMC 57kg South American women’s title.

Lion Fight 24 returned to Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut. The night’s main event featured the return of American stand out Ky Hollenbeck as he took on up and coming Richard Abraham. Many expected Hollenbeck to run through the less experienced Abraham, but the fighter from Illinois showed some real grit.

Hollenbeck used his usual aggressive style to try and keep Abraham on his heels, but Abraham was more than willing to engage with Hollenbeck as he came forward. Hollenbeck started off slow, but as the rounds went on he got more aggressive. and started landing some nice shots and looked stronger in the clinch. In the second round a cut was opened over the right right eye of Abraham, and in the third round an accidental headbutt opened a cut over the left eye of Hollenbeck. The referee stopped the action to have it checked and the doctor allowed the fight to continue.

In the fourth round Abraham landed a right hand that caused the cut to open again and after a few more seconds of action the referee called for the doctor to check on Hollenbeck’s cut. The doctor stopped the bout and it seemed Abraham would be the winner by (T)KO, but a protest from Hollenbeck resulted in the fight going to the judges score cards where Hollenbeck was declared the winner by unanimous decision.

The controversial part of the ending is that typically this would be a (T)KO win for Abraham. If the fight had been stopped when the headbutt first occurred then the ruling of a no contest would apply or if the headbutt had occurred in the fourth round then they would go to the score cards, but letting it continue into another round and the cut opening up again because of a landed punch doesn’t fall under that. The ruling should have been a (T)KO win for Abraham due to doctor stoppage. On top of that when the doctor was checking the cut he asked how it happened, if it was a headbutt or elbow. It shouldn’t matter to the doctor how the cut happened as their job is to assess if the fighter is able to continue fighting with the cut. How it occurred should have no bearing on the his decision if the fighter is able to continue or not. Unless they have some special rules in Connecticut regarding this Abraham should have won by doctor stoppage. 

In the co-main event Ognjen Topic and Stephen Meleady fought for five rounds as both men looked to capture the Lion Fight Lightweight Title. The first two rounds were close as both fighters exchanged kick & punches, and jockeyed for position in the clinch. Topic began to take control with his boxing in the third round, and in the fourth round wobbled Meleady. It was evident Meleady was tough as nails as he continued to press forward, but Topic got the better of the exchanges. In the end Topic won a unanimous decision and the Lion Fight Lightweight Championship.

Jo Nattawut showed why they call him Smokin’ Jo. He successfully defended his Lion Fight Super Welterweight Championship against the UK’s Charlie Peters. Nattawut was a bit more aggressive than normal in this fight and it paid off when he scored a third round (T)KO due to elbows. A barrage of elbows knocked Peters down and after the referee started his count Peters signaled he could not continue. Nattawut continues to be undefeated since joining Lion Fight and has now gone 5-0 for the promotion.

In other action Gaston Bolanos remained undefeated with a fantastic finish of Ben Yelle in the second round. Bolanos landed his patented spinning elbow and hurt Yelle which led to the fight being called off. It was another fantastic performance by the young Bolanos.

Chris Mauceri was also in action and delivered the KO of the night. In the third round he landed a brutal spinning elbow on Nicolas Parlanti that knocked him out cold. It was easily the most spectacular finish of Mauceri’s career.

Lion Fight 24 takes place this Friday at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, CT. The event will featured two Lion Fight Championships on the line as well as the return of Ky Hollenbeck to the promotion.

The main event will feature Ky Hollenbeck in his first appearance under the Lion Fight banner since August of 2011. Fighting Hollenbeck will be Richard Abraham, a regular on Lion Fight’s east coast events.

Hollenbeck has not competed since June of 2014 when he lost to top ranked Andy Ristie by KO. Hollenbeck was undefeated when he last competed for Lion Fight, since leaving the promotion he has fought for the now defunct MPL, Legends Muay Thai Championship, and Glory. He went 5-3 after he left the promotion, although all three of his defeats were to some of the worlds top ranked fighters in Ristie, Giorgio Petrosyan, and Nieky Holzken.

The co-main event will feature lightweight title bout between Ognjen Topic and Ireland’s Stephen Meleady. Both Topic and Meleady have cut their teeth fighting in Thailand and building solid reputations over there as some of the best foreigners competing. This should be a great bout between two skillful fighters that truly embody the Thai style.

The second title on the line will be Jo Nattawut’s super welterweight title. Looking to take the title away from Nattawut will be the UK’s Charlie Peters. Nattawut has gone 4-0 since he started competing in Lion Fight. Peters is an exciting fighter and it should be interesting to see how his style matches up with Nattawut’s technical style.

Rising stars Gaston Bolanos and Chris Mauceri will also be in action at the event. Bolanos will face veteran Ben Yelle, while Mauceri will fight Nicolas Parlanti.

Lion Fight 24 takes place on September 25 at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, CT. Two more fights have been confirmed for the event, Chris Mauceri vs. Nicolas Parlanti and Julio Pena vs. Yeison Berdugo.

Mauceri has been a Lion Fight regular, especially in the promotions trips to the east coast. Mauceri had one of the stiffest tests in his young career his last outing at Lion Fight 20. He dropped a unanimous decision to Thai Jo Sittisak, but showed the grit that has made a lot of people in the Muay Thai world pay attention to the New York product. He has only lost twice in his career, with his other loss coming to Kevin Ross.

Pena is another regular of Lion Fight when they visit the east coast. In his last outing for the promotion at Lion Fight 20 Pena scored a nasty first round knockout of Tom Evans.

Jo Nattawut vs. Charlie Peters has been tapped to take place at Lion Fight 24 on September 25 at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, CT. Nattawut will attempt to make the first title defense of his Lion Fight Super Welterweight Title.

Nattawut won the Lion Fight Super Welterweight Title at Lion Fight 22 with a unanimous decision victory over Salah Khalifa. Nattawut is 4-0 under the Lion Fight banner and has defeated Cosmo Alexandre, Sean Kearney, Richard Abraham, and Khalifa in his promotional run.

Peters is the second ranked welterweight in the UK. Peters is known for his knockout power and will be making his second appearance on U.S. soil. He fought for M-One Muay Thai in 2013 where he lost to Thanongdet Petchpayathai. Peters trains out of Double K Gym with Kieran Keddle.

Lion Fight 24 will also feature a lightweight title fight between Ognjen Topic and Stephen Meleady, and a main event bout between Ky Hollenbeck and Richard Abraham.

Lion Fight 20 took place at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut last night. The main event featured Jorina Baars in her first title defense. Chantal Ughi was looking to dethrone Baars, the pair had previously fought years ago in a bout that Baars won by split decision. This time around the fight was not close. From the ring of the first bell Baars established herself as the stronger and more skilled fighter. She peppered Ughi’s lead leg with kicks and the third round Baars scored a knockdown that Ughi was able to recover from, but the beating continued. Ughi’s leg was a mess and in between the third and fourth rounds Ughi refused to get off her stool awarding Baar’s her first Lion Fight title defense. Baars remains undefeated with the win.

In the co-main event Chris Mauceri was looking to add respected Thai veteran Sittisak to his list of wins, but Sittisak had different plans. The crafty veteran proved to be too skilled and experienced for Mauceri. Through out the fight he used great defense to avoid much damage from Mauceri’s strikes and his elbows were his bread and butter. Mauceri showed toughness by pressing forward throughout the fight but Sittisak’s counter attacks were very accurate. It was a valiant effort by Mauceri but Sittisak was simply the better fighter on the night and walked away with a unanimous decision win.

John Nofer and Jason Andrada met in a fight that had fans excited. After a close first round Andrada started the second round strong until Nofer changed the tied with an elbow that sent Andrada to the canvas. Once Andrada was up Nofer was like a shark smelling blood in the water. Nofer continued to pour on the pressure and throw elbows. The ending came when another elbow planted Andrada on the canvas. The referee jumped in to count for a split second then waived the fight. Big win for Nofer. 

In the night’s other bouts Jo Nattawut notched his third straight win under the Lion Fight banner with a unanimous decision win over Richard Abraham. Gaston Bolanos added another highlight reel knockout to his resume with a spinning elbow KO over Caleb Archer in the third round of their bout. Julio Pena kicked off the night’s televised bouts with a devastating knockout of Tom Evans.

Gaston Bolanos was announced to be fighting at Lion Fight 20 when the fight card was initially released, however, Bolanos opponent was unknown at the time. New York’s Caleb Archer has been called upon to take on the fast rising Bolanos.

Bolanos made his pro debut in 2014 under Lion Fight and went 2-0 with both of his wins coming by (T)KO. In his last outing Bolanos stopped Tyler Toner in the first round. Archer will be looking to rebound from a decision loss in his last fight. He dropped a decision to Ahmet Kairetli on December 5th under the American Muay Thai League banner.

Lion Fight 16 took place this past Friday in Las Vegas, NV. It was a night full of action as Kevin Ross was crowned the Lion Fight super lightweight champion with his win over Michael Thompson. Also on the card Tiffany Van Soest scored another win and called out Caley Reece as she continues the path to regaining her Lion Fight featherweight title.

So what’s next for the North American based Lion Fight 16 competitors? Here we play match maker and list fights that  we feel would make sense for the winners and some of losers from Lion Fight 16.

Kevin Ross vs. Demian Alamos

Ross is riding a three fight win streak and seems to have now regained his old form. Always a crowd pleaser Ross could be matched up with most likely anyone and it will be an exciting fight. Alamos made waves when he won the prestigious Lumpinee Championship back in 2012 and since then has become the first non-Thai to defend a Lumpinee title. Ross vs. Alamos would be a huge fight for Ross and a treat for American fans to get to see someone with the skill set of Alamos fighting in the states.

Tiffany Van Soest vs. Caley Reece

Since losing her Lion Fight featherweight title to Caley Reece at Lion Fight 13, Van Soest has won back to back fights. She defeated Lucy Payne, and Sindy Huyer in one sided victories and should be the obvious choice for Reece to defend her title against. The first fight was as close as a fight can get and these two ladies going another five rounds would only be fitting.

Gaston Bolanos vs. Jose Palacios

Bolanos scored an impressive one sided victory over Tyler Toner. From start to finish Bolanos was in control and was too much for Toner. Palacios is a tough veteran that would prove a solid test for Bolanos and would likely result in an exciting fight.

Casey Parlett vs. Damien Early

Parlett won his pro debut by handing Josh Shepard his first pro loss. A fight against another one of North America’s young guns would be perfecta and Damien Early fits the bill. Early has fought for Lion Fight before and is 2-1 as a pro. It would be a nice step in the right direction for Parlett if this fight were to happen.

Josh Shepard vs. Nate Chambers

Shepard tasted defeated for the first time against the debuting Casey Parlett. Shepard should be looking to get in the ring soon and make his first career defeat a distant memory. Nate Chambers, another Las Vegas based fighter would likely be an exciting fight for Shepard and a good way for him to try to get back on the winning track, although Chambers won’t be an easy fight.

Lion Fight 16 took place last night from The Pearl at the Palms in Las Vegas, NV. The night’s main event featured a clash between America’s Kevin Ross and Australia’s Michael “Tomahawk” Thompson for the Lion Fight Super Lightweight World Championship, and as expected the fighters two did not disappoint. 

As always Ross came out looking to meet in the middle and trade and Thompson was more than willing to do the same. Ross was clearly the bigger of the two fighters and for those that say size doesn’t matter, it does. Ross was able to bully the gutsy Aussie with his size and constant pressure. Ross seemed to get stronger with each round and in the end it was too much for Thompson to over come and the judges awarded Ross a unanimous decision victory. It was a great performance for Ross who has now won three straight for the first time since 2010. With the win Ross is Lion Fight’s inaugural super lightweight champion.

Tiffany Van Soest continued her road back to the title as she took on Sindy Huyer and it was business as usual for “Time Bomb”. After a close first round where Van Soest and Huyer were feeling each other out things picked up in favor of Van Soest. In the second round Van Soest landed a beautiful spinning elbow that dropped Huyer. Despite being able to recover and beat the count the remainder of the fight was all Van Soest. In the final round a teep to the face from Van Soest also resulted in a wardrobe malfunction as Van Soest’s foot pulled down the top of Huyer. As Huyer turned to pull up her top Van Soest connected with punch and the referee stepped in and stopped the bout. Van Soest was clearly on her way to a victory unless some miraculous comeback occurred, but the referee definitely made a bad call. Huyer fought hard enough that she deserved to continue to fight on. None the less Van Soest put on a great performance and after the victory called out Caley Reece in hopes of getting a chance to avenge her only career loss and winning back her Lion Fight belt.

Rungravee Sasiprapa made his Lion Fight debut against Adrian Morilla. Rungravee started the fight slow compared to how he normally fights, but by the end it was all Rungravee. Much credit has to be given to Morilla for hanging tough and trying to go toe to toe with a seasoned veteran like Rungravee, but in the end the Thai Terminator was just too much and the judges awarded Rungravee a unanimous decision win.

In the night’s other two pro fights Gaston Bolanos improved to 2-0 with first round (T)KO over Tyler Toner. Josh Shepard tasted defeat for the first time in his pro career with a split decision loss to Casey Parlett, who was making his pro debut.
