RWS Muay Thai went down today, and the ladies were front and center. Brazil’s Barbara Aguiar and Estonia’s Marie Ruumet battled for the vacant Rajadamnern Stadium Female Bantamweight Championship.
Aguiar and Ruumet had previously fought in August of 2024, with Ruumet winning a decision. From the start of the fight, Aguiar had one thing in mind, get close and clinch. She pressed the action, working behind punches to close the distance enough to lock up with Ruumet and then control the clinch while delivering knees. Ruumet had no answer for Aguiar’s plan and in the end, all three judges awarded Aguiar the decision win and the title.
In the co-main event, Uzbekistan’s Samandar Khasanov defeated Japan’s Asahi Shinagawa by unanimous decision. Shinagawa tried to pressure Khasanov the entire fight, but Khasanov’s countering was on point. Nothing that Shinagawa threw went unanswered from Khasanov. He pressed forward at times, landing several teeps to the face. It was a massive win for Khasanov as Shinagawa had built a reputation as a KO artist.
