K-1 World Max 2025 took place today at the Yoyogi 2nd Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan, with four title fights on the night.
In the main event, K-1 Super Bantamweight Champion Akihiro Kaneko took on Greece’s Manolis Kallistis. Akihiro dictated the pace of the fight, but Kallistis was game. It was pretty close until, in the third round, a right hand from Akihiro dropped Kallistis. He beat the count, and then Akihiro pressed the action in an attempt to finish. As the fight’s final seconds ticked away, a left hand dropped Kallistis again. In the end Akihiro defended his title by unanimous decision.
In the co-main event, Yodkhunpon Weerasakreck defended his K-1 Super Lightweight Title in stunning fashion against Hayato Suzuki. A little over a minute into the fight, Yokhunpon cornered Suzuki and unleashed a flurry of punches that dropped him. After Suzuki beat the referee’s count, Yokhunpon went in for the kill. Two big left hands had Suzuki on wobbly legs, and the referee jumped in to stop the fight. It was an impressive performance from Yodkhunpon.
In other title fight action, Takumi Terada successfully defended his K-1 Featherweight Title with a unanimous decision win over Takahito Nimi. Kira Matsutani won the vacant Women’s K-1 Atomweight Title in the night’s four-woman tournament. She defeated Mafia Petchmongkoldee in the tournament semi-finals and Aki Suematsu in the tournament final to claim the title.
