Mayweather vs McGregor might well have been one of the strangest boxing matches of all time. After a hectic month of MMA bookings, the boxer still finds himself exchanging words with ‘The Notorious’
Current UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov welcomes his predecessor back to the Octagon on October 6. Anticipation is growing for the pay-per-view event, which saw tickets sell on in a number of minutes.
After the infamous UFC 223 bus attack, the rivalry between Khabib and McGregor is well documented. However, as the event draws closer, people appear to be talking more about the re-ignition of the Mayweather vs McGregor rivalry.
Albeit over a year ago, the boxing match the two took part in was not the end of their ‘beef.’ The Irishman and his American rival have started up all over again this week.
Mayweather vs McGregor Trash Talk Continues
On August 25th, 2018, one year after their fight, McGregor reflected on the biggest payday of his life so far. He wasn’t exactly respectful, but was also not disrespectful, mainly focusing on the difference in rules between boxing and MMA.
Mayweather responded by offering McGregor some assistance in training for the upcoming Khabib fight. Whether or not he was serious is unknown, but ‘The Notorious’ did not take kindly to the offer:
A Little Harsh?
Considering Mayweather had offered to train him, the Irish striker’s outburst could be considered a little over the top. Mayweather responded with a little jab of his own, taking to Instagram to show ‘the easiest payday’ of his career.
Mayweather vs. McGregor reportedly netted both men insane money. McGregor was the ‘b-side’ in that pay split and apparently made £100 million. Not bad for a night’s work, which Mayweather says was easy:
What Mayweather Told TMZ
Here’s the interview that really started the latest spat of Mayweather vs McGregor trash talk:
“Conor’s not gonna back down and he’s not a scared fighter at all, win, lose or draw,” Mayweather said at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City … “Conor gonna come to fight.”
“I know that UFC got a training facility but we’d like for him to work out at the Mayweather Boxing Club.”
“I don’t really have a prediction because I’ve never seen the guy fight that’s facing Conor McGregor — from what I know he’s a hell of a guy that’s on the ground — hell of a grappler — and he can wrestle.”
“But, the fans want to see you stand up and fight. That’s what the fans like to see. But, Conor McGregor, he’s a tough competitor, like I said before Conor McGregor’s not gonna back down from anyone, he’s not scared, he’s a warrior.”
Seemed harmless enough!
