All fighters go through learning stages early in their career before they truly come into their own.
Rico Verhoeven is widely considered the King of Kickboxing, and with good reason. He looks unstoppable in the heavyweight division, but just like everyone else Verhoeven had to go through those growing pains as well.
In this KO of the Week we go back to the last fight that Verhoeven lost by KO, which took place in 2012 under the It’s Showtime promotion. He has only lost two fights in his career because of a stoppage. His opponent was heavy handed Errol Zimmerman, a fighter that Verhoeven has become very familiar with in his career. They have fought a total of three times.
Entering this fight Zimmerman was on a tear, he had won six straight fights with five of those coming by (T)KO. Those wins included fighters like Stefan Leko, Mourad Bouzidi, and Zinedine Hameur-Lain. Verhoeven was entering the bout on a two fight win streak. People expected a war between this two, but things don’t always go as expected.
These two fighters came out looking to let their fist and feet fly, and it wasn’t long before this was over.
