It seems Khabib Nurmagomedov has a plan for his career and it no longer includes Conor McGregor.

After the UFC 229 post-fight melee talks about a re-match began to circulate, event though Khabib had defeated McGregor in dominant fashion. A rematch would do huge Pay-Per-View numbers and earn both fighters another nice payday. McGregor made 3 million for their first fight and Khabib made 2 million, although Khabib’s fight purse is still being held by the athletic commission.

The idea of a rematch didn’t seem to last too long because before you knew it Khabib was threatening to leave the UFC if they released his training partner Zubaira Tukhugov who punched McGregor during the melee. He was set to fight Artem Lobov, McGregor’s training partner and the man who inadvertently kicked of the Khabib and McGregor beef.

The rematch really seemed like a distant idea when Khabib called out Floyd Mayweather. In a video posted on Instagram of Khabib with Mayweather’s manager, Khabib calls out “Money” and he responded. Mayweather accepted the challenge, but how serious it was is anyone’s guess at this point.

Floyd is more than ready for another big payday.

Khabib wants to score a payday like McGregor did when he fought Floyd.

The latest word regarding Khabib, who has been dominating MMA headlines since his win is that he has turned down a huge amount of money for the rematch with Conor McGregor. According to MMA Junkie, Khabib’s uncle Alex Nurmagomedov said in an interview that Khabib turned down a whopping 15 million dollars for the rematch.

In the interview with Sport Express Khabib’s uncle stated that his nephew is not interested in fighting Conor and instead wants to fight the former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson. Apparently, Khabib’s plans are to fight Ferguson and then ride off into retirement.

There is no denying that a rematch would be huge and would make all parties involved a lot of money. UFC 229 smashed UFC Pay-Per-View records with 2.4 million, their previous record was 1.6 million for McGregor vs. Diaz 2 at UFC 202.

This could all just be positioning by Khabib to get more money, but since the fight, he has been critical of the UFC. He even went as far as to state that he believed the UFC staged the bus attack, something the promotion has denied.

Khabib isn’t jumping at 2 million dollars.

50 tried, but Khabib didn’t jump.

Khabib also turned down a 2 million dollar offer from rapper 50 Cent for Khabib to go fight for him and Bellator. That doesn’t seem likely either as Khabib’s manager said that he won’t fight for Bellator unless he gets 50 million dollars. It seems big money is going to come to Khabib one way or another.

At this point, it seems Khabib is making sure he is in full control of his future. Even though the McGregor rematch makes more sense financially, the fight with Ferguson should be the next fight. If it will ever happen who knows, that matchup has been made countless times only to fall through each time because of injuries. This the fight that the hardcore MMA fans want to see as it makes the most sense. These are the top two guys in the lightweight division and with so many failed attempts to get them in the cage it would be great to see this be Khabib’s final fight if he really does plan on retiring.

Only time will tell what ends up happening, but so far Khabib has been a man who stands his ground and makes the decisions he wants. Let’s see if the UFC can offer something that will change his mind.
