UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov came out with some interesting comments about one of Conor McGregor’s fights. Not surprisingly, UFC president Dana White sees it completely differently…
During a manic few weeks for the UFC, a number of massive fights were booked. In the lightweight division, four marquee scraps featuring some huge names were made official at the 25th-anniversary presser.
Nate Diaz’s big return will be against Dustin Poirier at UFC 229, and of course the news everybody had been waiting for was announced. Returning from a two-year absence, Conor McGregor walks straight into a title fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Having held the title since UFC 223, Khabib has been itching for the McGregor fight for some time. The situation was exacerbated when ‘The Notorious’ attacked Khabib’s bus, filled with other UFC 223 fighters, in retaliation to the Russian slapping Artem Lobov.
Khabib Calls Bullsh*t
During an interview with press, Khabib made some interesting claims, As you’ll see further down, Dana White made the exact opposite statement:
“I don’t care about him [McGregor], you guys know his Uncle Dana give him a gift. He jumped over all contenders and he fought for the title. I do not understand this fight [McGregor vs. Alvarez], he catches him a few times and he falls down—to me this is a fake fight.”
“I no understand this fight you know—UFC give him this fight like seven, six weeks before the fight,” Nurmagomedov said. “He [McGregor] catches him a few times and he [Alvarez] falls down. I do not understand—a lot of people have a lot of questions about this fight.”
“People know because it was good for business and it was a money fight, this is why we get this fight. But, people want to know who is the real fighter, who is the top-level fighter. They don’t talk about different weight classes or who is the money fight.”

Speaking this week, UFC prez Dana White said McGregor is one of the most underrated fighters in the UFC:
“It’s funny to say this because of how popular he is and what a huge star he is, but I think Conor McGregor is one of the most underrated fighters in the UFC,” White said on UFC Unfiltered (via MMA Nytt). “Every time Conor McGregor comes out to fight somebody new and it’s a wrestler or it’s whatever, this is the fight that Conor is going to lose. He said that he would knock out Jose Aldo the way he did it, he said he would do it in the first round.
“A lot of people picked him to lose to Eddie Alvarez because of Eddie Alvarez’s style and wrestling. Look how he looked there. Leading up to the fight when he fought Chad Mendes — Chad Mendes is a wrestler, everybody believed that he would do that. Then after [Conor] won everybody said that Chad Mendes didn’t have enough time to train for it. The list goes on and on.”
