The K-1 World GP Japan 2017 was nothing short of spectacular.
K-1 built its foundation behind the heavyweight GP’s that featured some of the biggest names in Kickboxing. The promotion has not had the mystique it once had, but this year the tournament definitely did the old K-1 heavyweight tournaments justice.
All of the quarterfinal and semi-final bouts ended by first round knockout. Clearly each of these fighters came to win and left everything out in the ring. When the finals came around the two men left were Croatia’s Antonio Palizbat and Holland’s Ibrahim El Bouni.
It was unimaginable that this fight would go the distance with the way the tournament had played out thus far. Neither fighter was able to put the other away and the judges awarded Palizbat the decision victory and the tournament championship.
In other action Yoshiki Takei proved to be too much for American young gun Victor Saravia as he put him away in the first round with a body shot. Minoru Kimura deafeated Yasuhiro Kido by decision, Koya Urabe defeated Cristian Spetcu by decision and Tetsuya Yamato scored a first round knockout over Jun Nakazawa.
