Conor McGregor’s team in Ireland grows stronger now the Irishman is globally famous. One man drawing obvious comparisons to the former UFC lightweight champion is James Gallagher, in more ways than one…
Coming into tonight’s (Saturday, August 18, 2018) Bellator 204, Irishman James Gallagher was undefeated. Holding a record of 7-0, Gallagher, who trains out of SBG Ireland, was looking to extend his streak against Ricky Bandejas.
Few gave Bandejas much of a chance of winning, as Gallagher was coming off wins over Chinzo Machida and Kirill Medvedovsky, another straight victory could have signalled the time for a title shot at 145 pounds.
Unfortunately for Gallagher, he became the victim of a crushing knockout at Bellator 204 tonight. After taunting his opponent during the weigh-ins with a face-off very similar to how Conor McGregor does it, people were calling Gallagher ‘McGregor Junior.’
Gallagher Was Knocked Out After His Antics
When the two were being announced in the Bellator 204 cage, officials had to separate them when Gallagher marched across the ring. Much like Conor McGregor did against Chad Mendes, James Gallagher got in his opponent’s face again.
When the fight started, it was clear Gallagher was in trouble. After being dropped by a solid right hand, ‘Strabanimal’ got sweet chin music KO’d into oblivion. The knockout was very brutal.

Needless to say, people are already comparing this fight between Gallagher (Irish) and Bandejas (Mexican) to McGregor vs. Diaz 1. Outlandish and apparently cocky behaviour silenced in a massive upset.
Twitter, as you would expect, has been absolutely ruthless in their reactions to the fight. Check out what the trolls https://twitter.com/CoachEdmund/status/1030642775635750912had to say about this knockout:

Me: I kind of feel sorry for James Gallagher, the backlash he is going to receive will be huge.

James Gallagher should’ve won by DQ. A kick that lands with the bottom of the foot is technically a stomp, which is banned in MMA events held in the continental United States.

Gotta give James Gallagher this much:
For as cocky as he was right up to the match, was as humble as he was right after he was beaten by Ricky Bandejas.
Like his training partner / idol Conor McGregor says:

Props to Gallagher for his sportsmanship and maturity after the fight was done. After all, this is the sport of MMA and the outlandish antics are just part of the sell. Without that, MMA would be tough to get out to the masses.
Not only are these warriors willing to sacrifice their health, most of them are willing to risk becoming a meme if they lose. Some even become memes after they win. It’s a tough sport, made even tougher by memes.
