Tenshin Nasukawa Issues First Statement Since Getting KO’d By Floyd Mayweather

The combat sports world waved goodbye to 2018 with some great fights this past weekend. UFC 232 provided some serious highlights, but it was RIZIN Fighting Federation who provided the craziest pairing of the year, featuring Floyd Mayweather and Tenshin Nasukawa…

When it comes to fighting in Japan, there are a lot of differences between East and West. Although the base motives are the same; put people n seats and eyeballs on pay-per-view, the methods are worlds apart.

The lavish entrances, the man dressed as a cup noodle at the weigh-ins and the manga-style overtones of RIZIN are a far cry from the clean-cut, well-produced image of the UFC. It appeals to their market, the Japanese, who are more than used to this style of promotion.

On New Year’s Eve, the audience at the Saitama Super Arena were treated to a three-round boxing exhibition between Floyd Mayweather and Tenshin Nasukawa. Even wilder than the boxing great fighting a far smaller and younger kickboxer was the result.

Floyd Mayweather wasted no time in getting to work. He battered Tenshin Nasukawa to the canvas three times before the Japanese fighter’s corner threw in the towel…

Tenshin Says He Underestimated Floyd Mayweather

Accusations of a rigged fight flooded social media after Floyd Mayweather destroyed Tenshin Nasukawa. Counter-arguments from media veterans like Ariel Helwani questioned why RIZIN would rig their fighter to lose.

Tenshin’s emotions after the fight also seemed very real. As he cried, inconsolable for minutes after the fight, a feeling of reality certainly set in. After the loss to Mayweather, the MMA fighter/kickboxer took to Instagram with his post-fight statement:

I have worked hard with a big dream in the combat world. Karate, Kickboxing, MMA and Boxing. When I first got the offer I took it in a flash. I thought this was an opportunity of a lifetime, and although there were significant differences in accomplishments and weight classes, I felt that I must not run and take on the challenge. The days since the fight was confirmed have been enjoyable but with concerns, and I spent the time thinking about many things. At the end of the day, I got finished, but I have no regrets. I am disappointed at myself since I thought I could have done better. But I will face the facts and will continue to take on any challenge. I learned that I didn’t work hard enough to earn this opportunity, and I will use this defeat to improve myself and move forward this year. Despite all the things that happened leading up to the fight, I came to realize how truly great Mayweather was. I was the one underestimating him. I promise to make it to that level! It may take some time for me to become the man to haul the industry on my shoulders, but please continue to support me! Everybody who work to make this fight happen, thank you very much. Mr. Mayweather, thank you very much. #Cygames #rizin14 #BOXING #teppengym #target #RISE
