Conor McGregor started these talks before UFC 229, saying he wanted to fight Anderson Silva after Khabib. Now, the former middleweight champion wants Conor to back up his talk. Any interest in Anderson Silva – Conor McGregor?

Former champions Anderson Silva and Conor McGregor have been going back and forth for a few weeks now. Prior to UFC 229, McGregor called out Silva. ‘The Spider’ has now responded again, pointing out McGregor’s loss to Khabib…

During the media frenzy in the lead-up to UFC 229, Conor McGregor made some very interesting comments about Anderson Silva. Calling out the ex-middleweight champion, ‘The Notorious’ said he wanted to ‘test’ himself.

Responding in just a matter of hours, Silva said at the time he would be happy to fight McGregor. Needless to say, a battle of two creative strikers would make great viewing, although there is a bit of a weight difference.

During his dominant reign as middleweight king, the Brazilian Silva scored some of the best knockouts in UFC history. Perhaps the most well-known was his epic front kick that crumbled Vitor Belfort.

Anderson Silva – Conor McGregor Latest

During an interview with TMZ Sports, the former pound-for-pound king had a message for McGregor. Silva told the reporter that this isn’t about money or weight:

“I just waiting, I accept the challenge for Conor. I think Dana needs to think about this. It’s two big guys in this sport, two big names. Two big legends, and, why not?”

“It’s not about money, Conor. It’s about martial arts challenge. I think 180 for me is good,” he said. “I think for Conor, too. Because that’s a superfight. It’s not about weight class.”

When asked about the possibility of McGregor facing Khabib Nurmagomedov to try and avenge his recent loss, Silva said the Irishman won’t win if he pursues that fight:

“I don’t believe Conor win,” Silva said. “Definitely not. In a rematch, I don’t believe that. I believe in, Conor need to fight with me. That’s a good fight.”

Thoughts

Well, anything is possible in the realms of modern MMA. After being caught up in the high-speed grinder of Nurmagomedov at UFC 229, maybe superfights are the way forward for McGregor.

We all know he wants a rematch but UFC president Dana White said he has other things, specifically Tony Ferguson, in mind for Khabib next. Would 180 pounds be a fair weight for these skilled strikers to meet at?
