RWS delivered a major upset on Saturday night as Niall McGreevy knocked out Tapaokaew Singmawynn in the second round to become the new Rajadamnern Stadium Welterweight Champion. The card also featured Kirill Khomutov extending his impressive finishing streak with a stoppage victory over former champion Erdem Dincer.
In the main event, McGreevy stunned the Bangkok crowd by ending Tapaokaew’s reign with a spectacular second-round knockout.
The opening round was closely contested with neither fighter able to separate himself. The action picked up in the second as McGreevy began putting his combinations together before uncorking a perfectly placed elbow that sent Tapaokaew crashing to the canvas for the knockout. The victory crowns McGreevy as the new Rajadamnern Stadium Welterweight Champion, extends his winning streak to seven, and snaps Tapaokaew’s four-fight winning streak.
The co-main event featured former Rajadamnern Stadium Welterweight Champion Erdem Dincer taking on Russia’s Kirill Khomutov.
Both fighters came out aggressively and wasted little time picking up the pace. Dincer controlled the center of the ring throughout much of the opening round, but the momentum shifted in the second when Khomutov landed a punch that hurt the former champion. Sensing the finish, Khomutov poured on the pressure with a relentless barrage of punches. Dincer showed tremendous heart by refusing to go down, and the referee allowed him every opportunity to recover before eventually stepping in to stop the fight. The victory extends Khomutov’s winning streak to four, with all four wins coming by stoppage.
