Francis Ngannou vs. Derrick Lewis is set for an explosive co-main event at UFC 226…

Heavyweight knockout artists collide at UFC 226 as Franci Sngannou and Derrick Lewis fight in the co-main event slot. Two of the hardest hitting heavyweights got things going a little early last night…

Although the original co-main event slot between Max Holloway and Brian Ortega fell apart, UFC 226 is still looking great. Despite Holloway’s withdrawal and hospitalization, the pay-per-view card continues with a title fight between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier.

Featured now in the co-main slot is a heavyweight brawl between two of the division’s scariest strikers. Once scientifically described by Dana White as a ‘Ford Escort,’ Francis Ngannou will face Instagram troll and fellow KO artist Derrick Lewis.

Although Lewis has never been compared to an Escort, he still certainly packs a punch. With ‘The Predator’ coming off a loss to Miocic and Lewis looking to build on his win over Marcin Tybura, you know fireworks are expected.

During the ceremonial weigh-ins last night, that heat boiled over:

Tension Mounts

Speaking with ESPN.com recently, Ngannou discussed his loss to Miocic:

“It was like seeing your dream run through your fingers,” Ngannou told ESPN. “I could feel it.”

“No. Every time I felt like, ‘Yes, I can win this fight,'” Ngannou said. “My body wasn’t working, but I said, ‘I know if I can connect, I can win this.’ So that’s what kept me up. I knew I could still win.”

“I think it is my gift; it’s always what pushed me,” Ngannou said. “Even in the hardest situation I ever did, I believed it would happen. I don’t know why, but I knew it was going to happen.”

Meanwhile, word from Derrick Lewis is:

“I Like Being The Underdog”

I always feel like I am an underdog. I’m not a mixed martial artist, all these other guys are. I feel like I don’t really know too much, I’m just a fighter, that’s it. I’m way tougher than anyone he has fought, I have way more heart, he will see that come fight night.”

The main hype coming from the main event, the superfight, was when Daniel Cormier nearly KO’d himself on stage after the presser:
