Triumphant 3 took place last night in Oakland, California and boy did it deliver.
The night’s main event featured a WMC world title bout between Genah Fabian and Invicta FC veteran Charmaine Tweet. Fabian, now training out of CSA under coach Kirian Fitzgibbons is considered by many to be the next big female name in the sport of Muay Thai and Kickboxing. She lived up to expectations by finishing the fight in the second round. Fabian connected with a head kick that had Tweet out on her feet and promptly followed it up with punches until Tweet hit the deck. Not only did she capture the WMC title, she put everyone on notice.
In the co-main event UFC veteran, Anthony Njokuani and Sonny Singh fought for the Triumphant middleweight title. The fight went the distance with the more experience Njokuani being able to control the fight and win a unanimous decision and the title.
In what was one of the night’s most exciting fights Asa Ten Pow and Nick Chasteen went the distance. Ten Pow’s speed seemed to be a huge factor as he was able to score consistently on the larger Chasteen, even scoring a knockdown in the second round. Chasteen was able to rally back by walking down Ten Pow and unloading heavy shots, but it was too late. The judges awarded the unanimous decision to Ten Pow.
In other action Eric Luna beat Joseph Gogo by unanimous decision, winning his second bout in as many tries after being sidelined for over a year with an injury. Yumiko Kawano and Janet Todd made their pro debuts against one another. Kawano won the fight by split decision.
