It doesn’t matter what your combat sport of choice is, the one thing we can all agree is that this documentary here is pretty insane.
In the documentary Thai Prison Fights by Fightland we get to see how Muay Thai and Boxing is used by prisoners in hopes of a better life.
In Klong Prem high-security prison in Bangkok, inmates fight outsiders in boxing or Muay Thai for money, shorter sentences, and the greater glory of Thailand.
Imagine if in the country you lived inmates could fight for their freedom. It sounds like something out of a movie. It also brings up a lot of questions. Is it exploitation of the prisoners? Yes they have the choice to fight, but when you are behind bars and they tell you that you could get out of prison sooner if you fight, how much of a choice is that really?
Another issue is regarding their crime. If anyone was hurt, shouldn’t they get a say if a prisoner should be able to fight for his freedom? The list can go on for days, but in the end the fact that this is allowed simply makes one amazing documentary.
