In addition Rungravee Sasiprapa made his American debut in stellar fashion with a brutal striking display against Kunitaka Fujiwara. Pictures: Saenchai vs. Kevin Ross

On Sunday, August 14th, Saenchai Sinbimuaythai and Kevin Ross went toe to toe for five rounds at Stand Up Promotions “M1 Grand Muay Thai Championship”. On the line was the MTAA world title as well as the first ever WBC Muay Thai diamond belt. The cheers of the crowd rocked the place, as the fighters did each other, making for an over-the-top fan experience. American fan favorite Kevin Ross came up short in his bid to try and defeat arguably the worlds best pound for pound fighter.

Despite Ross coming up short, he proved to fans of Muay Thai everywhere that he belongs in the ring with the best. Saenchai — he showed why he is considered the best fighter in the world. It was a treat for Muay Thai fans everywhere and a great step in helping American fighter’s get the respect they deserve. Due to the magnitude of this fight, Muay Thai Authority has decided to release the pictures of Saenchai vs. Kevin Ross before any other photographs from the event. Included in the set of pictures are photographs of both fighters training as well as a look at them behind the scenes of this historic fight.

Los Angeles, CA — The biggest Muay Thai fight to ever hit American soil took place when Thai legend Saenchai and American stand out Kevin Ross met at Stand Up Promotions “M1 Grand Muay Thai Championship”. On the line was Saenchai’s MTAA world title as well as the first ever WBC Muay Thai diamond belt.

In the night’s main event Kevin Ross and Saenchai came out to loud cheers from the crowd and they did no disappoint. It was clear from the start of the bout that Ross was looking to press the action and use his size and boxing to gain the upper hand. The very crafty Saenchai moved well around the ring and was able to mitigate Ross’ attack by clinching or moving and connecting with counter strikes. Ross clearly showed he was game, never backing down from Saenchai and consistently pressing the action. Midway threw the fight a head kick from Saenchai sent Ross to the canvas, but he recovered quickly. Saenchai built a good lead for himself going into the final round and Ross came out swinging, but unfortunately for the American it was not enough as the fight ended up going to a decision. Two judges scored the fight for Saenchai 48-46 and the third judge scored it a draw at 47-47. Saenchai takes home a majority decision and the first ever WBC Muay Thai diamond belt, as well as his MTAA world title.

Ross can hold his head up high, because many did not give him a chance of beating Saenchai and many thought he wouldn’t make it to the final bell. With a majority decision and a gutsy performance Ross proves once again why he is such a key figure in the American Muay Thai scene.

In the night’s co-main event Tetsuya Yamato and Coke Chunhawat came out looking to get the upper hand as they each waited for their openings early. It seemed the fighters were looking to match each other strike for strike as they on several occasions exchanged leg kick for leg kick or body shot for body shot. Chunhawat seemed to be getting the upper hand midway through the second round and when the third round started it seemed he really started to pick up the pace and connect with elbows and kicks. Yamato, however, was able to cut Chunhawat and the referee stopped the bout to have a doctor look at Chunhawat’s cut and the fight was stopped. It was an unfortunate ending to a fight that was starting to pick up in action. The win is huge for Yamato, while Chunhawat has now dropped two consecutive fights.

Rungravee Sasiprapa and Kunitaka Fujiwara was an exciting fight as Rungravee came out looking to end Fujiwara’s night early. It seemed Fujiwara was doing a decent job in the first round, but as the round closed a head kick from Rungravee dropped Fujiwara. The second round picked right up where the first ended with Rungravee looking to finish the fight. The aggression by Rungravee picked up in the second as he dropped Fujiwara with knees. Kunitaka was able to get up from the count and an elbow from Rungravee opened up Fujiwara, but it didn’t matter because a right hook from Rungravee dropped him moments later. The referee stepped in and put an end to the bout as Rungravee wins the MTAA world featherweight title with a very exciting performance.

Chike Lindsay and Malaipet met in a bout for the WBC Muay Thai super welterweight international title. Lindsay came out looking sharp as he worked his jab well and his reach effectively. Both fighters looked good in the clinch as they both connected with solid knees. Lindsay , however, consistently pressed the action and used solid knees in the clinch to get the upper hand. In the end the judges scored the bout a split decision in favor of Lindsay who is now the new WBC Muay Thai super welterweight international champion.

In the night’s first pro fight Daniel Kim and Carlos Ramirez met in an exciting fight. Ramirez and Kim both had some very solid exchanges early and each connected with powerful shots on one another. Heading into the third round the fight was very close, but Ramirez moved in with some punches Kim countered with a left hook and sent Ramirez down for the count. Kim scores his second pro win with an impressive knockout.

Saenchai vs. Kein Ross

Rd. 1

Ross come out aggressive and Saenchai with a head kick. Ross is coming after Saenchai. Saenchai as always moving well. Ross clinches and they go to the canvas. Ross connects to the body. They clinch and exchange some knees. Saenchai looking flashy. Ross is pressing not backing down. Head kick by Saenchai and Ross clinches. Jab by Saenchai knees from Ross in the clinch. Leg kick by Ross and a right. They clinch and Ross knees Saenchai’s leg.

Rd. 2

Ross comes out pressing the action again. He goes tot he body and then they clinch. Saenchai with a body kick. Saenchai is getting aggressive now. He lands an elbow. They clinch and Saenchai working from the body lock. They break and a head kick by Saenchai. Elbow by Ross answered by an elbow from Saenchai. Saenchai going to body and Ross seems to be in trouble. They clinch and Saenchai connects with more to the body. Saenchai looking to end it but Ross seems game. Body shot by Ross but Saenchai looked good that round.

Rd.3

Saenchai looking good. Ross still pressing they clinch. A left kick to the head knocks Ross down. He gets up and goes back to work, Saenchai seems to be landing whenever he wants but Ross continues to push. Cartwheel kick by Ross lands at the bell.

Rd. 4

Ross pressing teh action but Saenchai tags him with a punch as he moves in. They clinch and are broken up by the ref before anything can happen. Saenchai landing some knees fom the clinch. Ross pressing the action looking to use his hands, but Saenchai clinches. Combination to the body by Ross. Ross lands to the body while Saenchai lands a left.

Rd. 5
Ross comes out swinging. Saenchai counter fighting but looking good. Right by Ross tags Saenchai and they clinch. Saenchai working his kicks. Ross pressing forward and throws a jump kick. Ross using his hand and the fight ends.

Result:
Saenchai def. Kevin Ross via Majority Decision (48-46, 47-47, 48-46) to win the MTAA World title and the WBC Muay Thai diamond belt.

Coke Chunhawat vs. Tetsuya Yamato

Rd. 1
Yamato with some leg kicks. Coke with a push kick. Jab by Yamato and coke with a right. Push kick by Coke. Leg kick by Coke. Leg kick by Yamato. They exchange leg kicks. Clinch and Coke looking to work some knees. Coke catches a Yamato kicks and cuts his leg out from under him. Body shot by Yamato.

Rd. 2
Leg kick by Yamato. Kick by Coke. Leg kick by Coke and Yamato answers with a leg kick. Knee to the body by Coke. Kick to the body by Coke. Coke blocks a high kick. Right by Coke. They exchange kicks. Nice combination by Yamato. Body shot and a left by Coke. Body shot by Yamato followed up by a knee to the body. Hard body shot by Yamato but Coke presses forward and clinches.

Rd. 3
Leg kick by Yamato. They exchange leg kicks. Body shot by Yamato. They clinch and knees by Coke. Elbow by Yamato. Coke takes his back and unleashes some punches. COke is working his elbows and is connecting flush. Yamato catches a Coke kick and sweeps him. Leg kick by Yamato. Coke is bleeding and the referee stops the fight so the doctor can look at it. The fight is stopped and Yamato wins the WBC Muay Thai international title.

Rungravee vs. Kunitaka Fujiwara

Rd. 1
Kunitaka seems game in the first round he is using good punches, but Rungravee uses some good leg kicks. As the round ends a head kick connects and drops Kunitaka. Note that Kunitaka has his guard up so that had to have been one heck or a kick.

Rd. 2
Hard elbow by Rungravee and then a few knees from the clinch drop Kunitaka. Rungravee looks to be in kill mode now. He presses forward and lands an elbow. a hard leg kick and then a flurry of strikes ar unloaded on Kunitaka. Blood streaming down the face of Kunitaka. A right hook drops Kunitaka and the ref has seen enough and calls the fight.

Result:
Rungravee Sasiprapa def. Kunitaka Fujiwara via KO at 2:06 of Rd. 2 to win the MTAA featherweight title

Malaipet vs. Chike Lindsay

Rd. 1
Body kick by Chike. Head kick by Chike grazes Malaipet. Right hook by Chike. They clinch and exchange knees before Malaipet trips Chike. They exchange knees in the clinch. Head kick by Malaipet blocked. They clinch and both connect with knees. Body kick by Malaipet answered with a leg kick from Chike. Fighting for position in the clinch. Malaipet goes down from a shot below the best, he is down and looks to be in serious pain. The doctor comes into the ring but Malaipet is up and walking around. The fight resumes after a small break for Malaipet to recover and the round ends.

Rd. 2
Body kick by Chike. Body kick by Malaipet. Chike with a hook to the body. Spinning elbow by Malaipet. Chike with a jab. Jab by Chike body kick by Malaipet. Leg kick by Chike. Chike is starting to connect with his hands. Round ends with the fighters exchanging and they continue after the bell for a bit.

Rd. 3
Chike comes out aggressive. Chike is working his hands and looking good In the clinch they battle for position. They both work some knees from the clinch. Chike seems to be getting the better positioning in the clinch. Right and a left by Malaipet and then a body kick.

Rd. 4
Chike not as aggressive as in the third. They clinch and exchange knees. LIndays presses Malaipet into a corner and lands another knee. They break and a leg kick by Chike connects. Chike working some solid knees from the clinch. Elbow by Chike from the clinch. Chike coonnects with some solid punches. Malaipet answers with one of his own.

Rd. 5

Chike comes out firing his jab. Malaipet needs to make something happen this round if he wants to get the win, but Chike is pressing the action. Body kick by Malaipet answered with a jab by Chike. Knees from the clinch by Chike. They exchange body kicks. Chike is really active. Cartwheel kick by Malaipet grazes Chike. They clinch and Chike lands a knee before the ref seperates them. The fight ends in what was a great performance by Chike.

Chike Lindsay def. Malaipet via Split Decision (48-48, 48-47, 48-47) to win the WBC Muay Thai international super welterweight title.

Carlos Ramirez vs. Daniel Kim

Rd. 1

Leg kick by Kim. Kick by Ramirez catches Kim low. Right by Ramirez and knee from the clinch by Kim. Hard right by Kim, he seems to have Ramirez in trouble. A few more punches by Kim and Ramirez clinches. Leg kick by Ramirez. Body shot by Ramirez and a right hook by Kim. Leg kick by Kim. Missed spinning elbow by Kim and then Ramirez with a left. Body shot by Kim and then a big right by Ramirez stuns Ki. Ramirez has him on the ropes and he unloads with shots. Kim survives the trouble and they are exchanging as the round ends. Exciting round.

Rd. 2
They clinch and exchange knees in the clinch to the legs before the ref breaks them apart. Knee to the head from the clinch by KIm. Missed spinning elbow by Kim. They clinch and Kim with knees to the legs. Leg kicks by Ramirez. Leg kick by Kim followed by a jab. Left and a right by Ramirez land. Knee to the body by Kim. Ramirez tags Kim with a right but Kim keeps moving forward.

Rd. 3
Knee to the body by Ramirez. Left hook By Kim drops Ramirez as he moves in and he cant answer the count.

Marcos Guevarra vs. Victor Perez

Rd. 1
Perez connects with a combination. Teep to the face by Perez but Guevarra moving forward. They clinch and Guevarra with knees to the legs. Jab by Perez. They clinch again and are broken up by the referee. Leg kick by Perez. Guevarra with a leg kick. Guevarra implementing leg kicks while Perez is letting his hands go.

Rd. 2
Perez comes out and is looking to work his hands. Guevarra still presses forward. A few punches to the head and then the body land by Perez. Guevarra still pressing and then a flurry by Perez send Guevara down and he is not able to get up.

Glen Spencer vs. Bryce Shepard

Rd. 1

Spencer and Shepard trade leg kicks. Another leg kick by Shepard Spencer answers with a leg kick to the body. Clinch and knee to the body by Spencer. Shepard with a combo and a kick ot the body. They trade from the clinch. They exchange leg kicks adn then clinch. A few knees by Shepard from the clinch.

Rd. 2
Shepard comes out swinging and then clinches. They both go down and when the fight resumes they clinch and exchange knees in the clinch. Spencer with some leg kicks. Spencer connects with another leg kick and Shepard clinches. Shepard is throwing some haymakers and Spencer connects with a few knees to the body. Shepard with a leg kick. Spencer with a nice punch combination and a knee.

Rd. 3

Body kick by Spencer then Shepard closes the distance and clinches. They break and they exchange kicks. Spencer with a 1-2 and a haymaker by Shepard grazes him. They clinch and break. Jab by Shepard as Spencer throws a leg kick. Right hook by Spencer.They clinch and exchange knees before the fight ends.

Jonathan Puu vs. Alex Gonzales

Rd.1
Gonzales comes out the aggressor in the first round. A left to the body drops Puu. Gonzales worked his hands and kicks well, while Puu seemed to recover from the knockdown.

Rd. 2
Puu comes out aggressive they exchange some strikes. Leg kick by Gonzales and then a body shot. Nice right hook by Gonzales and then he drops Puu. Puu goes right back to work and they exchange kicks. Push kick by Gonzales, a left hook tags Gonzales. Body kick and and punch connect with Puu. Gonzales is scoring well with his strikes.

Rd. 3
Puu comes out the aggressor again but Gonzales answers right back. Leg Puu and a jab-cross combo by Gonzales. Puu with some solid leg kicks. Gonzales with some taunting. Puu pressing the action but nothing landing. head kick by Gonzales, Puu on the attack but the time runs out.
