Glory 14 took place in Zagreb, Croatia today. In the night’s main event Kickboxing legends Remy Bonjasky and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic met in what was Bonjasky’s retirement fight. Filipovic, however, seemed like the stronger of the two fighters as he seemed ready to engage throughout the fight. Bonjasky looked to stay out of Filipovic’s range and avoided big exchanges en route to a majority decision win in what was a lack luster fight and a controversial win for Bonjasky.

Davit Kiria and Andy Ristie met for the vacant Glory Lightweight Championship. Ristie was the favorite coming into the fight after having dispatched of both Giorgio Petrosyan and Robin van Roosmalen at the Glory 12 Lightweight Tournament last November in New York. It seemed everything was going as expected, by the time the fifth and final round had started Ristie was in control and had already knocked Kiria down once with a knee in the second round. Rather than sit back and coast to a decision Ristie continued to exchange with Kiria and that decision ended up costing him. About midway through the round Kiria hurt Risite and he was given a standing eight count. Kiria continue on the attack and knocked Risite down. Rather than try and hold on Risite continued to try and exchange with Kiria while on wobbly legs and Kiria scored the third and final knockdown with less than 40 seconds left in the fight. With the win Kiria did not only provide and exciting come back wins for fans, but he also becomes Glory’s Lightweight Champion.

In the night’s middleweight tournament Brazil’s Alex Pereira scored a knockout of American Dustin Jacoby in the first round of their semi-final bout and then won the tournament by winning a majority decision over Armenian Sahak Parparyan.

Glory 14 Zagreb Complete Fight Card

Glory 14 completes their March 8th Zagreb, Croatia card with further changes to their middleweight tournament and super fight series. Alex Pereira replaces Robert Thomas in facing Dustin Jacoby in the semi-finals of the middleweight tournament, while bouts Mladen Brestovac vs. Jahfarr Wilnis, Benjamin Adegbuy vs. Jamal Ben Saddik, and Albert Krauss vs. Aikpracha are added to the superfight series.

Remy Bonjasky vs. Mirko Filipovic and Nieky Holzken vs. Marc De Bonte set for Glory 14 in Croatia

Glory will return on March 8, 2014 in Zagreb, Croatia with Glory 14. The night’s main event will feature a clash between two Kickboxing legends as Remy Bonjasky and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic square off in Filipovic’s home country. Also confirmed for the event will be a Glory Welterweight Title bout between Glory Welterweight Tournament champion Nieky Holzken and Marc De Bonte.

Bonjasky recently dropped a decision against Anderson Silva at Glory 13. He will be looking to end a three fight losing streak when he faces Filipovic at Glory14. Filipovic is currently riding a 10 fight win streak in Kickboxing. He last competed in March of 2013 when he won the K-1 Heavyweight GP, although there was some controversy surrounding some of the judging during his run in the tournament, in particular after his quarter final fight with Jarrell Miller.

Holzken recently won the Glory 4-Man Welterweight Tournament at Glory 13. He defeated Karapet Karapetyan and Joseph Valtellini defending his number one Glory ranking. Holzken has gone 6-0 since joining Glory and has clearly established himself as the best 170lb Kickboxer in the world. De Bonte has not competed since knocking out L’houcine Ouzgni at Glory 6 in April of 2013. De Bonte was originally scheduled to face Holzken in the semi-finals of the Glory Welterweight 4-Man Tournament, but was removed from the tournament for undisclosed reasons.

Also expected to take place at the event will be a 4-man middleweight contender tournament.
