WCK Muay Thai “Matter of Pride” set for February 15th in Temecula, CA

WCK Muay Thai will return on February 15, 2014 with “Matter of Pride”. The event will take place at Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, CA. The main event will feature Jemyma Betrian vs. Thais Souza and the co-main event will feature a re-match between Sergio Pique and Virgil Zwicker. Other fights set to take place at the event include Bryce Krause vs. Landon Simmons, Adam Rothwiler vs. David Huerta, and Afam Egbochuku vs. Charles Bisset.

Jemyma Betrian will be returning to the United States to fight for the first time since April of 2013 when she defeated Baitong Sumalee by first round knockout under the WCK Muay Thai banner. Betrian is one of the sports youngest and brightest stars and easily considered one of the top female fighters in the world.

Sergio Pique and Virgil Zwicker will meet in a re-match of their April 2013 fight which was won by Pique via split decision. The first fight had several wild exchanges throughout the bout and looked more like Rock Em’ Sock Em’ Robots. Nothing less should be expected from these two in the re-match.

Fight Card for November 2nd WCK Muay Thai “WCK vs. Wulinfeng” event in Las Vegas

WCK Muay Thai returns to action November 2nd at the Riviera Casino in Las Vegas. The night’s event will feature their annual WCK Muay Thai vs. Wulinfeng fight card.

The night’s main event will feature a WBC Muay Thai international title fight between Lerdsila Chumpairtour and Deng Zeqi. The pair met at last year’s WCK vs. Wulinfeng show in a fight that Zeqi won by split decision.

Some other notables on the fight card include Cyrus Washington, Mike Lemaire, Adam Rothweiler, and Afam Egbochuku. Washington will face Yi Long, Lemaire will fight Guo Qiang, and Rothweiler take on Chan Kai Chung as part of the team WCK vs. Wulinfeng competition. Egbochuku will fight Bruce Trudl in a full rules Muay Thai super fight.

WCK Muay Thai “Bad to the Bone” results

WCK Muay Thai “Bad to the Bone” took place this past weekend at the Pechanga Hotel and Casino in Temecula, CA. In the night’s main event Sergio Pique and Virgil Zwicker fought for five rounds with Pique earning a split decision victory. Zwicker seemed to be the stronger fighter earlier in the bout, but as he began to fade Pique began to pick up the action and was able to take the fight on two of the three judge’s score cards.

In the night’s co-main event Mike Lemaire took home a split decision over Andy Murad. Lemaire was coming off a “Road to Glory” tournament win and many thought he would simply walk through Murad, but that wasn’t the case. Murad kept the fight close by clinching and slowing down the pace of the fight and not letting Lemaire unload with his heavy strikes. In the end two of the judge’s saw the fight for Lemaire, giving him the win. Lemaire remains undefeated and pushes his pro record to 8-0.

Josh Aragon won scored a spectacular knockout in the fourth round of his fight with Karl Santiago. The Sityodtong Los Angeles product connected with a spinning elbow that sent Santiago crashing down to the canvas. It was an impressive knockout by Aragon who is now 2-0 since turning pro.

Jemyma Betrian needed only 30 second to dispatch of Baitong Sumalee. Betrian sent Sumalee to the canvas as soon as the fight started after connecting with a bunch. When Sumalee got back to her feet, Betrian pounced and unloaded on her ending the fight. It was a dominant and impressive performance by Betrian.

Afam Egbochuku scored a third round knockout over Miguel Cosio in a fight that was full of action. The pair actually scored a double knockdown in the second round, but in the end it was Egbochuku who earned the stoppage victory.

In the night’s other pro bouts Joe Davidson defeated John Vargas unanimous decision, Adam Rothweiler defeated Adrian Morilla by unanimous decision, Marvin Madariaga scored a third round (T)KO over Greg Roberts, and Jacob Poss scored a flying knee knockout over Jason Rzepka.

Afam Egbochuku talks win over Jacob Poss at “Road to Glory” in Los Angeles

The Hard hitting Afam Egbochuku defeated Jacob Poss this past weekend in the “Road to Glory” middleweight tournament reserve bout by knockout. Muay Thai Authority caught up with Afam to talk about his win and what the future awaits him in his kickboxing and Muay Thai career.

MTA: Big win this weekend at the “Road to Glory” event. You defeated Jacob Poss in the tournaments reserve bout. How are you feeling after that big win?

Afam: I am happy about the win, and I’m already looking to fix the holes in my game after I review the match.

MTA: You won by knockout, being the reserve bout you weren’t guaranteed another fight on the night, but just in case you did have one how important was it for you to end things early?

Afam: I didn’t go into the fight looking to end it early. I knew Jacob was going to be a tough opponent and all of my focus was directed towards fighting Jacob. I never overlooked Jacob.

MTA: Being the reserve bout were you on stand by the entire time up until the final and if so what was going through your mind that entire time?

Afam: I re-injured my left hand during the match with Jacob. It’s an old ligament injury that has plagued me since my last bout and during training for this match. I spoke to the doctor, and I made the decision to pull out of the tournament.

MTA: Some people were left wondering why you weren’t in the 8-man tournament field, you definitely would have made the tournament that much more interesting. Any idea why you weren’t selected?

Afam: I was grateful to even be selected to fight in the reserve match. I always considered myself unknown in the Muay Thai/Kickboxing world and I was surprised when I got the call from Dennis Warner asking me to participate. It was an honor.

MTA: It would have been interesting to see you matched up against guys like Eddie Walker, Andrew Kapel and Mike Lemaire. Any of those three guys someone you would really like to fight in the near future?

Afam: Those guys are amazing fighters and it would be an honor to be considered an opponent for any of them.

MTA: What’s next for you, do you have your next fight lined up already?

Afam: Right now, I need to make sure my hand heals properly first. I heard whispers about an event in April, but nothing official yet. I am looking forward to any opportunity that comes my way.

MTA: We all know Kickboxing and Muay Thai doesn’t pay the bills. Most fighters have regular jobs, are you getting to the point in your career where it might be time to focus 100 percent on fighting or do you think you can balance a fight career and your current career for a quite a while longer?

Afam: In America, yes… there is not a lot of money in kickboxing/Muay Thai and I wish the case were different. I love my career and I also love kickboxing/Muay Thai. If it came down to the sport or my career it would be a tough decision to make but my career will always take precedence… I got bills to pay!

MTA: You just turned pro 3 fights ago, but fans are starting to become more and more aware that you are one dangerous man in the ring. What can they expect to see from you in the future?

Afam: They can always expect the same thing. I love the sport, and I will always leave it all in the ring.

MTA: Any words for your supporters?

Afam: Just want to say thank you for all the love and support. I truly cannot do what I do without everyone that supports me. Undisputed gym (U1!!!), Extreme Power Gym, my family, friends and well wishers…Much love. “Naija no dey carry last”.

The “Road to Glory” middleweight (187 pounds/85 kilograms) tournament took place this past Saturday at Hollywood Park Casino in Los Angeles, CA. When it was over Mike Lemaire was the last man standing and the winner of a $20,000. In addition to the money Lemaire also earned a one year Glory contract.

Lemaire’s “Road to Glory” began with a bang as he scored head kick knockout over Evgeny Zotov. He then bested Andrew Kapel in what was a war of attrition. Lemaire was hurt early after Kapel scored a knockdown in the first round, but battled back for a draw at the end of the third round sending the fight into a fourth round. Lemaire was awarded the decision after the extra round to set up a bout with Eddie Walker in the tournament finale.

In the finale Lemaire scored a knockdown after a vicious leg kick crumpled Walker. After beating the count and making in into the final round Walker was clearly injured and Lemaire pounced. Leg kick after leg kick on the damaged leg of Walker was delivered by Lemaire. He scored three knockdowns in the third round and sealed the deal with the third round (T)KO.

With the tournament victory Lemaire has arrived as top North American contender.

Glory’s “Road to Glory” (@Glory_WS) series will feature its second one night tournament on February 9th at the Hollywood Park Casino in Inglewood, CA. This time the weight class will be middleweight which for Glory is 187lb/85kg. The tournament will feature the likes of Eddie Walker (@EddieShowtime), Mike Lemaire (@MikeLemaire), and Andrew Kapel.

The winner of the one night tournament will win a Glory contract and $20,000 dollars. Fighting in a tournament reserve bout will be Afam Egbochuku and Jacob Poss. The event is being held in conjunction with WCK Muay Thai which is promoted by Dennis Warner.

Egbochuku vs. Cosio and Lua vs. Williams set for 110% Fights October 6th event at Golden Acorn Casino

110% Fights – Thai Boxe Association will be back in action on October 6th, the event will once again take place at the Golden Acorn Casino in Campo, CA. The night’s main event will be a bout between Afam Egbochuku and Miguel Cosio; Gilbert Lua vs. Charles Williams will serve as the co-main event.

Afam Egbochuku will be looking to push his pro record to 3-0 when he takes on Miguel Cosio. At the last 110% Fights event earlier in August, Egbochuku scored a first round KO of Jason Rzepka. Cosio will be looking to get back on the wining track after losing to Mike Lemaire at the WCK Muay Thai card at Pala Casino on August 18th.

Gilbert Lua will look to build on his impressive KO of Antonio Wong when he meets veteran Charles Williams. Lua was able to rally in his fight against Wong and score a fifth round KO with a knee, while Williams will be looking for his first action in over a year.

Results and Recap: 110% Fights-Thai Boxe Association’s “Queens Cup”

110% Fights-Thai Boxe Association’s “Queens Cup” took place this past weekend at the Golden Acorn casino in Campo, CA. The event featured two pro Muay Thai fights along with several amateur fights.

In the night’s main event Afam Egbochuku scored a first round knockout over Jason Rzepka. Egbochuku dropped Rzepka with a head kick. Rzepka showed his heart and toughness by getting back to his feet, but not long after Egbochuku finished the fight with punches.

In the other pro fight Gilbert Lua scored a come from behind knockout victory over Antonio Wong. Entering the fifth round it was clear that Lua would need a finish to win the fight and finish is exactly what he did. Lua connected with a knee to Wong’s chin that ended his night.
