Ismael Lazaar has joined the Glory ranks, and he has the tall order of fighting Rico Verhoeven in his promotional debut.
Shortly after it was announced that Verhoeven would be in action at Glory 41, it was announced that his opponent would be the newly signed Lazaar.
A few changes have taken place, originally it was believed that Verhoeven would headline the Glory 41 main card in a title defense. The bout with Lazaar, however, will not be a title fight and instead of headlining the main card it will headline the Super Fight Series.
Verhoeven is currently considered the best heavyweight Kickboxer in the world. His most recent win was a (T)KO over Badr Hari at Glory Collision this past December. He has not lost in two years, and in that time frame has made five successful title defenses.
Lazaar is a former Enfusion Heavyweight champion, he has won four of his last five. The only loss coming to Glory heavyweight contender Jahfarr Wilnis by decision. Lazaar might not look like your typical fighter because of his physique, but when he steps in the ring it is all business.
Also added to the Glory Super Fight Series portion of Glory 41 is a welterweight bout between Murthel Groenhart and Harut Grigorian. Gorenhart was angling for a title shot against champion Cedric Doumbe, but instead will have to settle for a re-match with Gregorian. The pair fought in 2012 under the K-1 promotional banner, a bout which Groenhart won by knock out.
Glory 41 will take place on May 20 at the Brabanthallen Exhibition Centre in Den Bosch, Netherlands. The main card will air live on ESPN 3 and the Super Fight Series will air live on UFC Fight Pass.
