New Japan Kickboxing Winners 2016 took place earlier today and kicked of 2016 for the New Japan Kickboxing promotion.
The night’s main event featured a Muay Thai fight for the ISKA Muay Thai Bantamweight Championship between Daniel McGowan and Shiro. The bout was a back and forth battle between both fighters, with McGowan looking to work in the clinch. The referee of the match, however, did not seem to want to let the fight play out in the clinch and constantly broke the clinch up quickly. Shiro seemed to by primarily focused on working low kicks throughout the fight, while McGowan seemed to have a more well rounded attack. In the end when the judges awarded the victory it was to Shiro by unanimous decision, although it seemed that McGowan had done what he needed to win the bout.
In the co-main event Bakaipetto scored a fifth round (T)KO over Takizawa Hiroto. The corner of Hiroto was forced to throw in the towel after a barrage of strikes from Bakaipetto hurt Hiroto.
