Lion Fight 35 took place on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
The main event featured “Smokin'” Jo Nattawut defending his Lion Fight super welterweight title against Kengsiam Nor. Sripueng. Nattawut is Lion Fight’s first two division champion, he also holds the promotions middleweight title. Kengsiam is a two-time Max Muay Thai gold belt champion in Thailand.
From the sound of the first bell, the taller Nattawut began to use his speed and power to take control of the fight. Kengsiam had moments that included crisp boxing, counters and elbows but could not keep up with the kicking of Nattawut. Late in the third round, while both fighters were engaged in the clinch, Nattawut began to knee Kengiam’s right leg. After three hard knee strikes, Kengsiam went down and the fight was over. Kengsiam left the ring on a stretcher which led to chatter online that he may have broken his femur, but it has been confirmed that it was just a severe bruise. Nattwaut retains his super welterweight title with the third round (T)KO stoppage.
The co-main event featured a very technical & traditional match between Naruepol “Mr. GQ” Fairtex and Amadeu Cristiano. Naruepol stayed on his back leg most of the night with his back on the ropes and used well timed kicks to stop Cristiano from engaging. Most of the clinch exchanges were controlled by Naruepol and a few ended with Cristiano on the canvas because of sweeps or dumps. Cristiano seemed to respect Naruepol too much and was not aggressive enough to really push the pace. It wasn’t the most entertaining fight, but it was a solid showing for Naruepol as he returned to the ring for the first time in over three years to take home a unanimous decision.
