Glory 39 took place today at the Vorst National arena in Brussels, Belgium. The event was headlined by a welterweight title bout between champion Cedric Doumbe and challenger Yoann Kongolo.
Doumbe and Kongolo came into the fight on the heels of a very heated weigh-in that saw the fighters nearly come to blows. The two had fought twice in the past with Kongolo winning both fights by decision. Despite having lost to Kongolo twice, Doumbe was confident coming into the fight and once the bout started we saw why. He was a step ahead of Kongolo throughout the fight as he out struck the Swiss fighter over five rounds. When it was over Doumbe had defeated Kongolo by unanimous decision to successfully defend his welterweight title, and avenge his previous losses.
In the night’s featherweight contender tournament, former champion Serhiy Adamchuk and Petchpanomrung Kiatmookao met in the finals after they both won their semi-final boust by unanimous decision. The pair went the distance and after three hard fought rounds Petchpanomrung won a split decision. With the win he is now set up to fight former champion and number one contender Robin van Roosmalen for the vacant featherweight title.
In other action on the main card Jamal Ben Saddik out pointed Guto Inocente to win a unanimous decision. Afterwards he called out current heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven and the both proceeded to have an intense stare down in the middle of the ring. The pair fought before under the It’s Showtime promotion in 2011. Ben Saddik won the fight by (T)KO, it should make for an interesting match up as Verhoeven is now considered the king of Kickboxing and has looked unstoppable as of late.
