Daniel Cormier vs. Stipe Miocic was the main event for last Saturday’s UFC 226 pay-per-view card. Oddsmakers had Miocic as the favorite to remain champion, Daniel Cormier had other plans…
Reigning UFC light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier had a lot to prove on Saturday night at UFC 226. Defending heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic was the taller man and favored heavily by the betting lines.
Proving once again that odds are really only an indicator of how much money you could win, ‘DC’ stunned Miocic and the MMA world. Catching his rival coming out of the clinch with a right hand, Cormier went in for the kill to finish Miocic inside one round.
Crowned the first ever simultaneous light-heavy and heavyweight champion, Cormier becomes only the second multi-division simultaneous champion. At first sight, from the broadcast angle, the punch was a little difficult to see.
Thankfully, we’ve found three videos with varying angles of the closing moments from Daniel Cormier vs Stipe Miocic at UFC 226:
Devastating Right Hand
That really did land flush. Watching that clip, it just reinforces how dangerous fighting at heavyweight can be. Miocic’s boxing is among the best in the division’s history, but Cormier proved it just takes one punch to change the game.
Sitting down with ESPN’s Chael Sonnen and Ariel Helwani after his historic win, Cormier discussed the moment he clipped Miocic and went in to finish. At the 2:40 mark, you can see the moment Miocic wakes up dazed and confused.
Considering how much of a nice Miocic is, this was a little hard to watch:
Daniel Cormier vs Stipe Miocic Aftermath
After the fight was done, a well-placed WWE superstar jumped into the octagon. Although it sounds corny to some, it really happened. Likely to find sometime before next fall, Cormier vs. Brock Lesnar will probably serve as the biggest pay-per-view in some time.
For Miocic, it’s back to the drawing board, but there’s no shame in losing to an incredible champion like ‘DC.’ Here’s a look at the entire fight, start to finish, from the crowd’s perspective:

“So in that sense, Brock Lesnar stopped me from crying in the Octagon again,” Cormier said during the UFC 226 presser. “He kind of distracted me from saying all that stuff and that would have made me cry again. I don’t need to be another meme.”
“If they wanted me over there, I’d go over there,” Cormier said. “I’d go beat Brock in a wrestling match. Maybe they do us a shoot match. Put us in singlets and see who wins. Then go major decision him or something, maybe pin him.”
