Tragedy struck the Muay Thai world on Satruday when 21 year old Jordan Donald died from what is suspected to be a heat stroke while cutting weight in Thailand.
Jordan, who goes by Jordan Coe on Facebook trained at Lamnammoon Sor Sumalee Gym in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand. He was in Khorat, a northern province in Thailand for a scheduled fight on Sunday against Cambodian fighter Kohn Bola for ASEAN promotion. The fight was to take place at 61 kg (134.4 lbs), Jordan was trying to lose 3 kg (6.6 lbs).
It is reported by the Bangkok Post that he left his hotel on Saturday around 11:30 AM dressed in heavier clothing to try and shed the weight. He did not return that night and police found him on Sunday in the Muang district dead from what appeared to be a heat stroke.
Jordan had the ring name Deachkalek Sor Sumalee and had been living in Thailand for three years as he trained and fought Muay Thai. The sentiments for Jordan and his family have poured in on social media, while some people are upset that this occurred from what at the moment seems to be a weight cut.
Weight cutting has been a hot button issue in combat sports over the past few years with one of the biggest complaints against it being how dangerous it can be if not done properly.
